G.U.R.L.S. ROCK is a social entrepreneur program that exists to educate, train, invest in and nourish the growth of girls as change leaders. G.U.R.L.S. stands for "Growth", "Unity", "Respect", "Leadership", and "Success". G.U.R.L.S. ROCK prepares girls of color to take center stage as global leaders.
G.U.R.L.S. ROCK seeks to combat the negative impacts of low self-esteem, poor self-image, poor self-acceptance, underdevelopment of anger management skills, eating disorders, childhood obesity, and limited access to affirmative role models and affirmative career opportunities in media, advertising, law, and the entertainment industry.
The first G.U.R.L.S. Rock Summit was launched in Oakland, California, on August 28, 2010, with Emotional Intelligence 2.0 and the Emotional Intelligence Appraisal as an integral part of the global movement to empower girls as change leaders at a new level. The event provided 175 young participants with a highly sophisticated learning program and addressed the girls as future leaders. G.U.R.L.S. ROCK is now looking at fully integrating Emotional Intelligence 2.0 as a new tool for empowering our next generation of global leaders. The summit was the first of many across the country leading to the first G.U.R.L.S. Global Leadership Summit in Washington, DC, in 2012. This approach to working with young women is a significant milestone in shaping leadership training for the next generation of leaders.
